If I didn't already love cotton, Samoa would convert me. This is a world-class gorgeous yarn, whose satin finish simply sings within the knit fabric.

Although I haven't actually counted them (life is short, after all), it looks to me as if Samoa incorporates about 10-12 threads in each strand of yarn. They are plyed with a delicious spin that lays them all down right next to each other, perfectly, the way the threads in Damask satin lay next to each other. This results in an extraordinary gloss, so smooth and lustrous that the first time I saw a skein from a distance, I really did think I was looking at silk. Needless to say, Samoa instantly became a "must have" yarn for us - really, it's just too darn good to keep quiet about.

And notice the lay of the stitches in the sidebar closeup - how one side hugs in close with the other side leans toward the next row. That's all because of that delicious spin I was telling you about - in addition to creating a silky, satiny glow, it also gives your fabric a bit of extra design punch with the way it lays when knit. What fun! And, how very lovely!
